Concept Solar StillThis is a concept for a solar still for use in insanley hot countries such as the Middle East and Africa which also have large areas of flat open country. This design is scalable so you can have it a metre wide or a mile wide, it can be a metre long it can be thousands of miles long The basic concept is the main gutter is filled with seawater that is fed in a one end (arrows 1 in the second picture down), the solar rays heat up the the interior of the still due to the base of the main gutter being painted matt black which heats the seawater beyond its boiling point (arrows2), the water then condenses on the glass sides and runs down into the collection gutters (arrows 3) the water then runs into pipes to be siphoned off arrows (4&5) There are many advantages to this such as all bacteria are killed due to the extreme and prolonged heat and no debris can get into the collection gutters because the updraft of water vapour does not have the strenght to lift it over the barrier between gutters The disadvantages are that you have a lot of sodium chloride click here to go to the home page |
